Me and a "Where I Am From" Poem

Hello, Hope every one is having a good week. Sorry, haven't been on in a while. New semester has started and I hard at work.  All three of my kids is out for summer break. I have one child going into middle school next school year. Yes, my emotions has been all over the place. I have been crying, worrying, and smiling about him going. But as his mom, I know he will be alright. It just the fact my first born is growing up on me.

Speaking of growing up. We had to write a poem, "Where I Am From",  about our childhood. I wrote mind, and I wrote it straight from my heart. And I am going to share it with y'all today.

Where I Am From

I am from the yummy smell of fried chicken, lima beans and rice, and fluffy homemade biscuits cooking,
From mama saying, "You must eat what's on the table or starve." and be in bed by 8 pm.
I am from playing tag into the wee hours of the night, and playing in campers with my cousins,
From long and hot summer days fishing, and sweet watermelons to make your mouth water.
I am from you say Yes, Ma'am and No, Sir.

I am from daddy's loving and caring advice,
From you got your butt spanked for misbehaving.
I am from feeding crazy and feisty chickens,
From keeping and working hard in big vegetable gardens.

I am from crying myself to sleep at night, for my mama never being there for me,
From a big loving family on my dad's side.
I am from my daddy struggling to keep food on the table for two,
From watching my dad work hard to make sure I had the things I needed.
I am from my dad making sure my high school graduation was perfect.

I am from you always tell the truth,
And daddy will be there no matter the need.

Pictures, old fishing rod in the corner, and little treasure box is who I am.
I am my daddy's baby girl, althought I am the oldest.
To give my kids the same joy as my dad gave me, is what I want to do.
No, it wasn't perfect but I still hold the memories dear to my heart.

Sorry post is long. But I wanted to share my poem. Yes, I have a very close bond with my dad. Hope you all enjoyed.Thank you for stopping and reading. Have a great weekend.
